| I arrived at the venue at 5:20 p.m. I didn't care to see any other band, just System of a Down! I did manage to catch a few songs by Disturbed but who cares. Anyways, thanks to one of the coolest guys ever, I got to go "backstage". Right when I walk through the gate I see Serj. He was standing to my left, talking to a group of people. To my right I see Daron chilling in a golf cart. Of course I do what any moron would do, I freeze. I have been waiting almost 5 years for this opportunity and I basically screw it up! Well, I walked up to Daron, shook his hand and just smiled and stared (shoot me!) He talked a bit. He was really nice and funny. I expected him to be quiet and moody but that wasn't the case. He was so cool. I asked him for a photo and at first he joked and said "No" then he stood up and we took a picture together, I said "Thank you" and that was that. I then walk over to Serj's direction. While I am trying to work up the nerve to go up to Serj, John walks by. He walks over to Daron and they start talking. After a few minutes, John walks towards his bus and is alone. I figured this is my chance. I walked up to him, shook his hand and asked for an autograph and a photo. He was really sweet. My mind went blank so I didn't say anything clever. I just said "Thank you" and walked over again to Serj's direction. (Shoot me again!) Serj is still chatting with a group of people. I finally get introduced to Serj. He said "Nice to meet you, Luisa" and I almost died. I asked him to sign my ticket and asked for a photo. Once again, I didn't say anything! Give me a break, I was nervous! I was just standing there like a creep when Daron came over and started talking to Serj. I was standing right there basically being nosy for about 5 minutes. My cellphone rang so I moved to the side to answer it. I was talking to my sister and Daron looks over at me and yells "She's lying!" He yelled it twice. About 30 seconds go by and Daron is heading over to his bus and he walks towards me and grabs my phone and yells "She's lying!" in the phone. It was hilarious!
I didn't get to meet Shavo because he was in his bus, sleeping. Maybe next time...... After meeting SOAD I headed on over to my seat. Disturbed was onstage. Everybody was on their feet and going crazy. I was the only one sitting down. Like I said before, I was there to see SOAD! Disturbed finished at 9:00 and System of a Down was to start at 9:20. The lights go down and you can see John taking a seat behind his drums. Daron then walks out and starts singing "Soldier Side". "Attack" was next. The setlist was the same. I am not sure if they performed "This Cocaine makes me feel....." Many people have said that SOAD were "boring" or "lacking energy" on this tour. They should've attended this show! System of a Down were full of energy! Serj was running around and dancing like crazy. Daron and Shavo both looked like they were having a blast. The entire show was close to perfection. "Lost in Hollywood" sounded amazing. "Sad Statue" was the best! During the intro of "Violent Pornography", Daron was talking about MSNBC, Serial Killers, Girls Gone Wild, Jesus, and crucifixtion. Various highlights from the show include, Serj and Shavo touching each others asses, Daron almost whacking his face with the mic during "Ouestion!", Serj rolling around on the stage during "Suite Pee", and the main lights coming on before Serj got to finish the last part of "Sugar". The only disapointing part of the show was the crowd. The majority of the people were there to see Disturbed. A lot of the people in my section left in the middle of SOAD's set. And a lot of people were sitting down :( They suck. This was by far the best SOAD show I have ever been to. The guys were SO nice and the show was magnificent! That is why System of a Down are the greatest band to ever exist! THANK YOU, MIKE! If it wasn't for you, I would not have had the opportunity to meet 3/4 of System of a Down. I owe you big time :) . |
