Postby 2eroSOAD » June 4th, 2012, 11:01 am

Slipknot have announced today the creation of their own festival, 'Knotfest'. They will be joined by Serj Tankian, Deftones and Lamb of God among others

"Slipknot will hold their first-ever Knotfest with two day-long events, one August 17th in their home state of Iowa and the other August 18th in Somerset, on the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota"

I saw that! And the Aug 17th gig in Iowa might just be "on my way home" from the Aug. 15th System show in Chicago.

:o

Yeah, I don't fit in the "fest" either, but I bought my tickets today.

:D

And I do expect that Serj will either be an opener or on the second stage, but that's quite all right with me. I'm counting on the Maggots NOT being interested so I can be right smack dab up front and center, without getting moshed to death.

It was a beautiful day in Pacific Junction Iowa for the first show of the first ever Knotfest.

Serj Tankian and the FCC were slated for the 2nd act on the main stage, from 5:25 to 6:15. They didn't disappoint.

I'm WAY the hell too tired to write a proper review, but the rowdy crowd seemed to appreciate them, despite the fact that most of them hadn't heard anything from Harakiri, had a bit of familiarity with Empty Walls, probably, and were really wishing that System would magically appear.

I somehow managed to get my middle-aged body to second row just behind the barrier. I'm still sore from headbanging at System in Chicago 2 days earlier, but I needed this & people were pretty cool. There was a bit of crowd surfing & shoving & moshing but I'm still alive.

Setlist:

The Unthinking Majority
Beethoven's Cunt (insert heart here)
Uneducated Democracy (first live performance if I'm not mistaken)
Butterfly
Sky is Over
Honking Antelope
Figure It Out
Cornucopia
Feed Us
Harakiri
Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition
Empty Walls.

Oh, and Serj joined Deftones near the end of their set. Not sure what song it was (not Mein) but they sang bits of Suite Pee in it.

Nice. He played ptlapta and unthinking majority :). No slow songs not even left of center

Wrong crowd for slow songs. I was just thrilled to pieces they played Uneducated Democracy. I thought it would go over well, and I think it did.

Anyone find any videos of last night or tonight's Knotfest, please post them!

What about Slipknot, did you see them? How was the place, the people, all the weird stuff? Did you get to see some of that or just the shows? Sorry, I don't know anyone else who has gone and I love Slipknot :D

We honestly didn't stay until the bitter end to see Slipknot, although my friend is a fan and would have enjoyed it. The parking situation was way fucked, and getting out of there early, on the washboard gravel road they made us travel in the encroaching fog was scary enough at 9:30. I'm quite sure that the state of Iowa sent the vast majority of their highway patrol there to handle the crowd. We were stone cold sober, and I can't imagine what it would have been like to leave after the bitter end with all those wasted people out in that God-forsaken motorplex surrounded by half-dead soybean fields in the Missouri river valley there.

All in all it was a fabulous people-watching experience. There were lots of dressed-up people amongst the audience, and more in costume hired to be there, I'm sure. Zombie-fest to the max! It wasn't horribly hot, but the sun was brutal that afternoon & I felt sorry for Serj & his FCC having to face the hottest afternoon sun while they performed. As the sun set after the Deftones played, it cooled off considerably.

Basically, they had 2 stages, and did an act on the 2nd stage, then one on the main. After Serj/FCC played the main, we heard Machinehead on the 2nd. Then Deftones played the main, and Lamb of God was to play the 2nd. But in-between there was some cool fire thing going on that I can't explain. They also had a few carnival rides and lots of food vendors & other weird entertainment.

Here's a pic of me with Erwin from the FCC (an old friend) who came to see us before the gig for just a bit. You can see the main stage in the background.
